BrandIndex API documentation
Programmatic access to YouGov BrandIndex — daily brand-perception tracking across many markets, categories and metrics. Where the BrandIndex web application lets you build charts and tables by hand, the API lets you request the same underlying data directly, so you can build your own dashboards, reports or integrations.
Everything lives under https://api.brandindex.com/v1.
The live OpenAPI specification at
https://api.brandindex.com/v1/openapi.jsonis the source of truth for exact request and response schemas. These pages explain the concepts, behaviour and workflows around them.

- What is the BrandIndex API — what it does and what it returns.
- Authentication — get credentials and make an authenticated call.
- Your first request — a complete, copyable example.
- API conventions — the envelope, IDs and behaviour shared by every endpoint.
How this documentation is organised
Concepts describe the shared mental model — the taxonomy, metrics, scoring, periods and filters. Analyses and rankings are both assembled from these same building blocks, so each idea is explained once here and cross-linked from everywhere else.
Finding the data covers the lookup endpoints that give you the IDs you query with.
Analyses return time series of brand scores. Rankings return league tables of brands within a category.
Supporting resources covers events, tags and system health.
BrandIndex MCP is the other way in: an LLM client querying BrandIndex through tools, over the same data as the API. It has its own documentation.
Guides & recipes work through complete tasks end to end — tracking brand health, benchmarking against a sector, building a league table, segmenting by audience, detecting significant change and exporting to a spreadsheet.
Reference is lookup material: the interactive OpenAPI explorer, metrics glossary, error codes, limits and quotas, versioning and terminology.
Support answers common questions.
