Custom sectors & industries

Maps to: taxonomies

Beyond standard sectors, two further grouping types can be used as an entity: custom sectors and industries. Both can also be expanded into their component brands.

Custom sectors

A custom sector is a user-defined grouping of brands, referenced by custom_sector_uuid. Use it just like a standard sector — including is_median and is_unweighted:

{ "custom_sector_uuid": "3f2b…", "is_median": false, "is_unweighted": false }

Discover them via the custom-sectors catalogue endpoints.

Industries

An industry is a higher-level grouping that can span multiple sectors, referenced by industry_uuid. Same options as a sector:

{ "industry_uuid": "9c1a…", "is_median": false, "is_unweighted": false }

Expanding a grouping into its brands ("all brands")

Instead of a single aggregate series, you can ask for one series per brand in a grouping — the basis for a league table. Use one of the "all brands" entity forms:

{ "brands_from_sector_id": 1, "region": "us", "only_active": true }
{ "brands_from_custom_sector_uuid": "3f2b…", "only_active": true }
{ "brands_from_industry_uuid": "9c1a…", "only_active": true }
  • A single query written this way expands on the server into many result series — one per brand in the grouping. Each appears as its own block in the response, with the individual brand identified in its entity.
  • only_active: true restricts the expansion to brands currently tracked in the grouping, excluding retired ones.

Watch the limits. Expanding a grouping multiplies the number of brands in the request, which multiplies its size. See Request size & limits.
