How to add the BrandIndex MCP to different LLM clients.

Supported clients​

BrandIndex MCP has been set up and tested with:

  • ChatGPT
  • Codex (CLI)
  • Claude Desktop
  • Claude Code (CLI)
  • Google Gemini (CLI)
  • Antigravity
  • Grok
  • Copilot Studio

Server URL​

https://mcp.brandindex.com/mcp

You authenticate as yourself through YouGov Platform via OAuth 2.0, and the MCP inherits your existing BrandIndex permissions: you can query the regions, sectors and data your account is entitled to.

Each section below gives what's specific to BrandIndex: the server URL, and any BrandIndex-specific command. For the client's own setup steps, follow its official docs - those change more often than this page can track.

ChatGPT​

Add BrandIndex as a custom connector using the server URL above, with OAuth authentication (requires Developer mode, and a Business/Enterprise/Edu plan for workspace-wide setup).

Codex (CLI)​

Add the server:

codex mcp add brandindex --url https://mcp.brandindex.com/mcp

Codex detects that BrandIndex MCP supports OAuth and starts the sign-in flow automatically. If it doesn't, or you need to re-authenticate later, run:

codex mcp login brandindex

Claude Desktop​

Add BrandIndex as a custom connector using the server URL above. Custom connectors are available on Claude Desktop (and claude.ai, Cowork) for Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans - Free is limited to one connector.

Network note: Claude's remote MCP connections are made from Anthropic's cloud infrastructure, not from your device, even in Claude Desktop. If your MCP access is ever restricted to specific networks, your IT team would need to allowlist Anthropic's IP ranges rather than your own.

Claude Code (CLI)​

Add the server:

claude mcp add --transport http brandindex https://mcp.brandindex.com/mcp

When you next launch Claude Code it will show that the MCP requires authentication. Run:

/mcp

Select brandindex, then Authenticate. A browser window opens and you log in via customers.yougov.com using your YouGov Platform account.

Google Gemini CLI​

Add the server:

gemini mcp add brandindex https://mcp.brandindex.com/mcp -t http -s user

Use -s project instead of -s user to scope this to a workspace. Authenticate with:

/mcp auth brandindex

Add the server URL above via the MCP Servers manager (IDE) or /mcp (CLI).

Add as a Custom Connector at grok.com/connectors using the server URL above.

Add as a tool: Tools page → New tool → Model Context Protocol → server URL above, OAuth 2.0 (Dynamic discovery), End user credentials.
